Our light fitting repair service is for the lights you don't want to throw away: the chandelier that's been in the family for years, the bedside lamp that's stopped working, or the vintage find that needs rewiring before it's safe to use. We repair, rewire and modify them, and we make new lamps and chandeliers to order.
Plenty of faults can be fixed where the light hangs. Bigger jobs, like a full chandelier rewire or a bespoke lamp, come back to our workshop, either collected by us or dropped off by you, and go back tested and ready to use. Any bedside lamp, or any other lamp with a plug, also comes back with a free PAT test sticker, valid for 12 months.

From a loose bulb holder to a full strip-down, this is the light fitting repair work we do most.
Repairs and fault finding
Lights that flicker, buzz or won't switch on. We find the fault, whether it's the bulb holder, the switch, the flex or a loose connection.
Rewiring old and antique pieces
New flex, bulb holders and switches for vintage lamps and chandeliers, keeping the original look. Fabric-covered flex is available if you want it to look the part.
LED conversions
We swap old holders for LED-friendly ones and fit dimmers that suit LEDs, so you lose the flicker and the buzz.
Modifications
Shortening or lengthening the drop, changing bulb holders, adding a dimmer, or adapting a light to suit a new room.
Chandelier cleaning and crystals
Taking chandeliers down, cleaning them, re-stringing drops, replacing missing or broken crystals and hanging them back up.

Hung securely, wired properly
A chandelier can weigh a lot more than it looks. Under the wiring regulations, BS 7671, every light fixing has to hold at least 5 kg, and anything heavier needs a fixing that's rated for its weight (Voltimum explains the rule). Before we hang a heavy chandelier, we check what it's fixed to and fit a proper support into the joist if it needs one.
Lamps are a little different, because they plug in. After a light fitting repair or rewire, we test the lamp the same way we'd PAT test any appliance, so you know it's safe before it goes back on your bedside table. Every lamp with a plug gets a free PAT test sticker, valid for 12 months.

Our light fitting repair service is for anyone with a light worth saving, from a single bedside lamp to a set of chandeliers.
Signs your light needs looking at
It's worth getting it checked if:
- It flickers, buzzes or only works when you wiggle the switch
- The flex is cracked, brittle or the fabric is fraying
- The bulb holder is loose, scorched or discoloured
- It has a metal body but an old two-core flex with no earth
- The lamp gets hot near the bulb holder, switch or plug
- A chandelier arm or crystal has broken or gone missing
If you can smell burning or see scorch marks, unplug the lamp or switch the light off at the fuse board, and don't use it until it's been checked.

Can you repair a chandelier without taking it down?
Often, yes. Plenty of light fitting repair jobs, like a loose connection or a broken bulb holder, can be done where it hangs. A full rewire or a lot of crystal work is easier, and safer, in our workshop.
Can you rewire an antique or vintage lamp?
Yes. We replace the old flex, bulb holder and switch with modern parts and keep the original look as much as we can, including fabric-covered flex if you'd like it.
Can my old chandelier take LED bulbs?
Usually. Sometimes the bulb holders or the dimmer need changing so the LEDs work smoothly without flickering or buzzing. We'll tell you what's needed when we quote.
Can you turn a vase or bottle into a lamp?
Yes. Bring us the piece and tell us the look you're after, and we'll turn it into a lamp with the right holder, flex and switch.
Is my chandelier too heavy for the ceiling?
It might be. Under BS 7671, a light fixing has to hold at least 5 kg, and anything heavier needs a fixing rated for its weight. We check what the ceiling can take and fit a proper support if it needs one.
Will my lamp be PAT tested?
Yes. Every bedside lamp, or any lamp with a plug, that we repair, rewire or make is PAT tested before it goes back, and comes with a free PAT test sticker, valid for 12 months.
Do you clean chandeliers and replace missing crystals?
Yes. We can take it down, clean it, re-string or replace drops and crystals, and hang it back up. We'll match replacement crystals as closely as we can.
