Emergency Lighting Installation in London
Our emergency lighting installation service keeps London buildings safe when the power fails. Because a system only works if it is fitted correctly, the details matter. For example, a badly placed light or the wrong cable can leave an escape route in darkness.
We work in offices, shops, restaurants, warehouses and the communal areas of flats and HMOs. In addition, all our work follows BS 5266-1:2025 and the IET Wiring Regulations, BS 7671.

Installed to BS 5266-1:2025
BS 5266-1:2025 was published in October 2025. As a result, it replaced the 2016 edition. Importantly, it now covers standby lighting and local area lighting, as well as emergency escape lighting.
It is also used alongside BS EN 1838:2024 and BS EN 50172:2024. Therefore, every emergency lighting installation we complete meets the required light levels and rated duration.
Types of emergency lighting we install
Because the right type depends on your building, we explain every option in plain English.
Maintained
These lights stay on all the time. For this reason, they suit bars, venues and cinemas, where the normal lighting may be dimmed.
Non-maintained
In contrast, these lights only switch on when the mains supply fails. As a result, they are common in offices and communal areas.
Self-contained
Each fitting has its own battery. Therefore, it is simple to install and cost-effective.
Central battery
Instead, the batteries sit in one place. Because of this, it suits larger sites.
Emergency lighting for commercial and residential buildings
We install systems in many types of premises. However, BS 5266-1 does not apply to private homes. Instead, it covers the common access routes in blocks of flats and maisonettes.
When do you need emergency lighting installation?
For example, you will usually need a new system when:
- Your fire risk assessment recommends new or upgraded emergency lighting
- Your existing lights fail their tests or are out of date
- A commercial unit is being fitted out or is changing use
- A building is being converted into flats or an HMO
- You are refurbishing or rewiring a property
- Your insurer or local authority asks for improvements
In addition, under fire safety law, the "responsible person" must keep the premises safe. Therefore, the GOV.UK guide to workplace fire safety and the London Fire Brigade guidance are worth reading.

Emergency lighting installation FAQs
How long does emergency lighting installation take?
It depends on the size of the building and the type of system. However, we will confirm the timescale with your quote, and we can also work outside opening hours.
Which type of emergency lighting do I need?
In general, it depends on how your building is used. Therefore, your fire risk assessment and design will set out what is needed, and we will explain the options clearly.
Can you upgrade my emergency lights to LED?
Yes, LED emergency lights use less energy and usually last longer. As a result, we can replace old units with fittings that meet BS 5266-1.
How are emergency lights wired?
In most cases, self-contained emergency lights are connected to the local lighting circuit. That way, they can detect when the normal lighting in that area fails.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, once the work is complete, we test the system. Then, we give you the certificates and a logbook for your records.
Can you test and maintain the system afterwards?
Yes, we also offer regular emergency lighting testing to keep your system working and your logbook up to date.
