What we deal with

What our emergency electrician service covers

These are the call-outs we get most often, whether it's a flat in Willesden, a house in Ealing or a shop in Camden.

No power

If your neighbours still have power but you don’t, the fault is usually inside your property. We trace it, whether it’s the main switch, an RCD or a damaged cable.

Tripping that won’t reset

A breaker or RCD that trips straight back off is often caused by a faulty appliance, damp or a damaged circuit. Therefore, we test each circuit to find the cause instead of just resetting it.

Burning smells and scorch marks

A burning smell from a socket, switch or fuse box is a serious warning sign. Because of this, we find the overheating connection and make it safe.

Water and electrics

Leaks through ceiling lights, sockets or the consumer unit. We isolate the affected circuits, check them once they’ve dried out and, for example, replace damaged fittings.

Damaged cables and sockets

For example, cables hit by a drill or nail, chewed by rodents or crushed during building work, as well as loose, cracked or sparking sockets and switches.

Shops, offices and rentals

Loss of power in a shop, office or rented home, as well as emergency lighting and fire alarm faults. In addition, we help landlords get tenants back up and running quickly.

Before we arrive

What to do while you wait for an emergency electrician

Your safety comes first. If you can smell burning, see sparks or water is near the electrics, switch off the main switch at your consumer unit, but only if you can reach it safely and it’s dry. However, never touch anything that’s wet, hot or sparking, and keep children and pets away from it.

If the whole street has lost power, the fault is on the network rather than in your wiring, so call the free power cut line on 105 (powercut105.com). If someone has had an electric shock, call 999 straight away.

When to call an emergency electrician

Not every fault needs a call in the middle of the night, so here’s a quick guide.

Call us straight away

Burning smells, smoke, sparks, exposed wires, water in the electrics or no power at all. Also call if an appliance, tap or metal fitting gives you a tingle or a shock.

Can usually wait until morning

One dead socket or light, or a single breaker that tripped once and has stayed on since. Even so, if you’re unsure, call us and we’ll tell you honestly.

Call someone else first

If the whole street is off, call 105. Smell gas? Leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999. And if someone is hurt, call 999.

Warning signs

Signs you need an emergency electrician

Some faults start small, so it’s worth calling us if:

  • You can smell burning or hot plastic near a socket, switch or the fuse box
  • A socket or switch feels warm, or is cracked, scorched or discoloured
  • Your lights flicker or dim, for example when the kettle or a heater switches on
  • The trip switch keeps going off and won’t stay on
  • You feel a tingle or a shock from an appliance, tap or metal fitting
  • Water has got into a light fitting, socket or the consumer unit

FAQs

Emergency electrician FAQs

How quickly can an emergency electrician get to me?

It depends on where you are in London, the time of day and the traffic. However, we’ll always give you an honest arrival time when you call, so you’re never left guessing.

How much does an emergency electrician cost in London?

The cost depends on the time of day and what needs doing. Therefore, we’ll explain the call-out cost on the phone before we set off, and any repairs beyond making it safe are quoted for free first.

Are you really open 24 hours a day?

Yes, our phones are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays.

What should I do if my trip switch keeps going off?

First, unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it. If it stays on, plug things back in one at a time to find the faulty appliance. However, if it trips with nothing plugged in, the fault is probably in the wiring, so call an emergency electrician.

Should I call 105 or an electrician in a power cut?

If your neighbours have lost power too, call 105, because the problem is on the network. On the other hand, if it’s only your property, for example your main switch or RCD won’t reset, call us.

Do you do emergency call-outs for landlords and businesses?

Yes, we attend rented homes, shops, offices and restaurants across London. In addition, we’re qualified in fire alarms and emergency lighting, so we can deal with those faults too.
